Strategy One

Advancing IU's Plan 2030 Goals

The five strategies take into consideration three contexts relevant to the IU 2030 Strategic Plans and key state-wide initiatives:

  • Current and emerging issues across the Indiana P-12 ecosystem
  • State workforce trends and objectives
  • Alignment with state college-going objectives

Strategy #1: Strengthening campus-community connections through P-12 engagement

IU supports local, regional, and state postsecondary and workforce objectives and initiatives in order to develop community-centric models of engagement that ensure reciprocity. We incorporat approaches such as stewardship of place and community-engaged research into our P-12 partnerships.

Indiana College Core

Indiana University partners with Indiana high schools to offer the Indiana College Core (ICC), enabling students to earn 30 credit hours of college-level coursework.

Students learn they can succeed in college and gain flexibility in their college schedule, which provides opportunities for work, internships, study abroad and more.

All high schools partnering with IU receive ongoing support through the IU-ICC Network, a community of peers offering the ICC through IU, providing and sharing best practices, resources, and programming.

Pathway PLUS

Indiana University partners with Indiana high schools to provide high school students the opportunity to explore and experiment with a career path.

The Pathways PLUS program combines field-specific college classes, student support services, and hands-on experience to try out career choices while students are still in high school. Students build valuable skills, set career goals, and accelerate their college education.

Courses are taught by IU faculty, often on an IU campus, giving students opportunities to connect with faculty, IU students, and create a connection to the IU community.

Career Coaching Initiative

Through the innovative program College + Career = Success, IU campuses deliver personalized career coaching and support services. Coordinated by the Office of School Partnerships, this initiative collaborates with 38 Indiana school corporations to extend these vital services.

This is a transformative opportunity for IU to provide consistent, individualized guidance, empowering students to pursue their aspirations with confidence and clarity. Focusing on grades 6–12, the program engages students through small group discussions, career presentations, and preparatory activities for postsecondary education. By offering access to IU's resources both within school settings and on university campuses, the initiative bridges the gap between secondary education and higher learning. Recognizing the importance of family support, it also extends opportunities for family member involvement.

Aligned with the Indiana’s Comprehensive Career Coaching and Navigation Framework developed in collaboration with the Indiana Department of Education and other stakeholders, the initiative prioritizes communities with diverse needs and leverages the expertise of career coaches with real-world experience. IU shares the vision of erasing boundaries between P-12 education, higher education, and the workforce, committed to providing students with meaningful pathways tailored to their unique skills and interests.
